In our Stokke Xplory review, we will go over all of the main features of the stroller and point out any flaws that we have come across in regards to make, usage or design of the features. We believe it’s important to understand both the good and bad sides of a stroller before purchasing, so we’ve done extensive research on it. Seat

The seat in the Stokke Xplory is designed just like a chair. There are 3 different positions for the recline angle when it’s facing backwards and 2 different positions when it’s facing forwards. There are 2 levers for adjusting the recline angle on either side of the stroller, which is a nice and convenient feature, as either hand can be used to trigger the lever. The seat is removable, so there is a seat removal mechanism on the side of the stroller. It is a bit trickier to remove the seat when it is not at an upright angle, but not impossible.

The height of the seat can easily be adjusted by a lever at the bottom of the seat. There are numerous carved in heights, leaving a lot of room for versatility. The height of the seat is perhaps one of the most attractive features of this stroller. It’s supposed to elevate your child for better parent-child interaction, conversation and a better sense of security. Since the seat can be quite elevated, it can double as a high chair for added convenience.

The seat also has a high backrest which is very nice. Although the seat doesn’t look all that spacious, it is actually a lot more spacious than it seems. The manual states that the stroller can hold a child up to 42.5 inches (108 cm) tall, but it’s not surprising if it can hold an even taller child. Parents have reported that children of almost the maximum height still have a lot of room to move around and aren’t even touching the edges. Since the seat has a weight capacity of 45 lbs (20 kg), it can easily hold a 4-5 year old child.

Footrest

The footrest can be adjusted to four different heights via the knobs on both sides of seat near the footrest. The downside is that both hands are needed to adjust the footrest height and sometimes the footrest may slip out. The shortest distance that the footrest can be from the seat is 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) while the longest distance is 9 inches (22.9 cm).

Storage

The Stokke Xplory comes with a nice storage bag, which is designed to match the color of the seat. It can be attached to the stroller or carried separately. The expandable mesh pocket allows you to control the size. It is capable of holding quite a lot, and can close completely at the top so you don’t need to worry about anything falling out. Similar to a duffel bag, it has handles at the top for convenient carrying. Depending on the position of your seat, it may be hard to access it from the top, but fortunately it can be easily opened from the sides.

Hood

The foldable waterproof hood is composed of two pieces: the first piece is 14 inches long while the second piece is 10 inches long. The second piece can be flipped to reveal a mesh panel which acts as a viewing window. This viewing window is meant to be used when your seat is facing forward to allow you to keep an eye on your child.

One downside to the hood is that it doesn’t offer coverage of bright lights from all angles. If your baby or child is sleeping, having bright lights coming from everywhere can be a pain. This problem can be partially remedied by unzipping the edge of the hood, extending the angle of the hood’s position and securing it there.

Wheels and Brakes

The wheels and brakes on the Stokke Xplory are very well designed. The wheels are made of a soft durable rubber material which is also filled with micro air capsules to prevent puncturing. The front swivel wheels are non-lockable while the rear removable wheels have brakes. Brakes are activated by a lever located beside the right rear wheel. It is easily applied by simply pushing down on it and can be disengaged by pushing down on it again.

One really nice thing about the wheel design is that there isn’t a horizontal bar between the rear wheels, which allows you to take long strides without having to worry about kicking the stroller.

Folding

Compact and easy to transport when folded

Although the Stokke Xplory can be folded, it is not a complicated process because it doesn’t really fold up in a very compact way. The main idea is to bring the front wheels closer to the rear wheels, which just requires a two-piece fold. It’s definitely not the most compact stroller when it’s folded up, and this is probably the main flaw with it. The stroller can be folded with or without the seat attached. If you fold it with the seat attached, it will transform the stroller into 2 wheel mode which is really convenient for walking on sand, dirt paths, bumpy terrain, and especially stairs!

Judging from the testimonials given by users of the Stokke Xplory, most parents enjoy it a lot and complaints were few and far in-between. Unsurprisingly, most parents pointed out that they really enjoy the elevated seat and the ability to use it as a high chair at restaurants. The Stokke Xplory has revolutionized the design of strollers. It is the first stroller to focus on parent-child interaction and not just on child comfort. Because of the elevated height at which your child sits, you can expect better interaction with your child as well as reduced back pain when you need to pick him/her up. Overall, it’s a very well designed stroller with both the parents and child in mind.

Although there are some flaws with the stroller, such as the non-compact folding, and lack of a cupholder or tray, they are minor compared to the huge benefits that the stroller has to offer from its unique features. So to answer the question of whether the Stokke Xplory is worth the money that you pay, we have concluded that with all things considered (features, quality, build) — yes, it’s definitely worth it.
